Customers of everyday service businesses usually come from the surrounding neighborhoods. In residential districts like Sagulung, with a projected population of 236 thousand in 2025 according to BPS (the largest of Batam's 12 districts), and Batu Aji with 140 thousand, the questions are almost always the same: how much does it cost, can you pick it up, and when will it be ready.

Shops in Batam serve a city with a projected population of 1.30 million in 2025 according to BPS, spread across 12 districts and 64 kelurahan. If you deliver, list your delivery areas by district rather than "all of Batam", so buyers in Nongsa or Sekupang know from the start whether their address is covered.

The Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kota Batam (the city's culture and tourism office) recorded 1,059 restaurants, eateries, and coffee shops in 2024: 513 restaurants, 321 coffee shops, and 225 eateries. Of these, 692 are in the Batam Kota and Lubuk Baja districts. Food businesses also dominate the businesses mentored by the cooperatives and micro business office: 1,376 of 1,748 active mentored businesses as of April 2025.

In areas that crowded, buyers compare on their phones: menu, prices, opening hours, and distance.
