Car Rental Website Design
People looking to rent a car usually compare a few rental companies within minutes, and what they compare is almost always the same: which cars are available and at what rate, the rental terms, and where the car can be delivered. A good rental website answers all three on one page, then takes the renter to WhatsApp with a message that already names the car and the dates.
What usually holds car rental businesses back
The first question that comes in is almost always about rates, and the answer is rarely as simple as one number. Self-drive or with a driver, 12 or 24 hours, fuel included or not, and whether the rate changes in the holiday season. A price list that only says "from Rp so-and-so" still leaves renters asking about every car, when all of that could be written once in a single table.
The second problem is terms and the deposit. Self-drive renters want to know which documents are required, how much the deposit is, and when they get it back, while tourists from abroad have their own questions about driving licenses. Terms that are only explained in chat often change from one admin to the next, and renters who feel they were treated differently rarely come back.
The third is availability. Ahead of long holidays, rental admins get dozens of questions about cars that are already fully booked. An ordinary website doesn't know which cars are out, so the honest approach is to ask renters to check over WhatsApp with a message that already includes the car, dates, and delivery location. An availability calendar that's actually kept up to date needs a database and someone who records every car going out and coming back.
What it can look like for car rental businesses
We built this Lajur Rental Bali demo ourselves as an example of the format. The brand, cars, rates, and terms are fictional, and that's stated at the top of the demo. It has six cars with self-drive rates per 24 hours and with-driver rates per 12 hours; an order builder that turns the chosen car, dates, rental length, and delivery location into an estimated total and a WhatsApp message at the same time; rental terms and deposit marked as examples; pickup and drop-off fees for the airport, harbor, and hotel areas; and rules for fuel, overtime, and out-of-town trips. Next to the order builder is an honest note that availability is checked manually, because the page doesn't hold the cars' schedules.

What you get
For car rentals, the content that usually decides whether renters get in touch:
- A list of cars with real photos, passenger and luggage capacity, and self-drive and with-driver rates written per duration
- What's included in the rate: fuel, driver, parking and tolls, and the overtime fee per hour
- Rental terms and deposit, including documents for tourists from abroad if you serve them
- Pickup and drop-off areas with their fees, for example the airport, harbor, station, and hotel areas
- Rules for taking the car out of town or off the island, written before renters ask
- A WhatsApp button that opens a message with the car, dates, rental length, and delivery location
- A domain in your business's name, so the address printed on your car stickers and business cards stays yours
What we don't recommend: "car available" notices that are never updated, and photos of cars taken from the internet. Renters who find the car is different from the photo are usually disappointed from the moment they get the keys.
Pricing for a car rental website
A rental with a few cars is usually fine with the Starter package, Rp 1.500.000: one page with cars, rates, terms, delivery area, and WhatsApp, including a .com domain, hosting, and SSL for the first year, finished about 3 days after we receive your complete materials.
If your fleet is large and each car needs its own page, a photo gallery, or a blog with travel routes, the Business package, Rp 5.000.000 with 1 to 2 weeks of work, is usually the better fit. An availability calendar that updates automatically and down payments on the website need a database, so that's the Enterprise package, from Rp 15.000.000. A booking system and a payment gateway are both on the Enterprise Basic Tier feature list. A comparison of what each includes is on the package page.
We break down the Lajur demo section by section, along with the business licenses for self-drive and with-driver rentals in OSS, in the article car rental website example.
Questions we often get from car rental businesses
- How much does a car rental website cost?
From Rp 1.500.000 with the Starter package, for one page with cars, rates, terms, delivery area, and WhatsApp, including a .com domain, hosting, and SSL for the first year. A large fleet with a page per car usually falls under Business, Rp 5.000.000.
- Can it show which cars are available in real time?
Yes, with the Enterprise package, because it needs a database and someone who records every car going out and coming back. On Starter and Business, the honest approach is a WhatsApp button that asks about availability with a message containing the car and dates, as in the Lajur demo.
- Can renters pay the down payment directly on the website?
Yes, with the Enterprise package and a payment gateway account in your business's name. For rentals whose orders can still be handled over chat, confirming over WhatsApp followed by a bank transfer or QRIS is usually enough.
- Our rates change in the holiday season. How should we write them?
Write the normal rate and the peak season rate as two columns, with their date ranges, so renters don't feel the price went up quietly. On Starter and Business, rate changes are made by sending us a request. On Business, catalog updates like this are included in the 1-month support period; on Starter, the support period covers bug fixes only, so we state the cost of content changes in the proposal.
