Website Redesign and Migration from Your Old Vendor

An old website that's slow, hard to change, or whose vendor can no longer be reached can be rebuilt without starting everything from zero. Content that's still accurate is reused, old addresses are redirected to their new pages, and the domain is transferred into your name. One thing we say up front: InWebsite doesn't sell monthly maintenance and doesn't patch old websites. What we do is build a new website with one of our packages, then hand it over to you.

What usually holds businesses with an old website back

The problem we hear most often comes from an old vendor who has disappeared. The website was built a few years ago, the developer's number is no longer active, and the domain and hosting turn out to be registered in the vendor's name. You still pay the renewal every year without the access to change a single sentence. Before rebuilding, the first thing to confirm is who owns the domain, because without it the old address can't be moved. The steps to check are in the article who owns your website's domain.

The second problem comes up when a website is replaced without a plan. Old pages that Google has indexed and that are printed on brochures suddenly lead to a page-not-found error, and search traffic drops with them. Google's official guide to moving a site asks for every old URL to be redirected to its new equivalent with a permanent redirect such as 301, and for those redirects to be kept as long as possible, generally at least 1 year. The same guide warns that rankings can fluctuate while Google recrawls the site, and that for a medium-sized site new URLs can take a few weeks or more to start appearing.

The third is websites that are broken or hacked. If the old website was built with plugins or themes that haven't been updated in years, patching one hole doesn't necessarily close the others. We don't patch old websites. In cases like this we build a new website from scratch, then reuse the old text and photos that are still accurate after checking them one by one.

What it can look like for businesses with an old website

We can't show a before-and-after from a client website yet, so the demo embedded here is Kirana Logistics, which we built ourselves as an example of the format. It shows the kind of website that usually replaces an old company profile: a summary of land, sea, air, and warehousing services, an Indonesian and English language switch in the opening section, a tracking page by waybill number, and an estimated rate calculator. Your old website doesn't have to change that much. If its structure is already right, the same pages can be rebuilt with a new look and new speed.

What you get

What we do when rebuilding an old website:

  • A list of every old URL that is still indexed or still circulating, then a map of 301 redirects from each old URL to its new page
  • Titles and meta descriptions from old pages that still work are carried over to the new pages, and the weak ones are improved
  • Old text and photos that are still accurate are reused, so you don't have to rewrite everything from the start
  • The domain stays if you have access to it. If it's still in the old vendor's hands, we help with the steps to transfer it into your name
  • A new sitemap is submitted to Google Search Console, then we check for pages still leading to page-not-found errors after the website goes live
  • If the domain changes too, the Change of Address tool in Search Console is used according to Google's guide
  • One month of technical support for bug fixes after the new website goes live, included in every package

What we don't do: monthly maintenance for old websites, patching hacked websites, and migrations that only copy old files to new hosting without rebuilding.

Website redesign pricing

There's no separate rate for a redesign. The cost follows the package for the new website: Starter Rp 1.500.000 for one structured page, Business Rp 5.000.000 for several pages with a blog and catalog, or Enterprise from Rp 15.000.000 if your old website uses a database, logins, or an admin panel that has to be rebuilt. Starter and Business include a .com domain, hosting, and SSL for the first year. If you keep the old domain, you still pay its renewal directly to the provider. Why we don't use a subscription model is explained in the article one-time payment vs monthly subscription websites.

Work that grows because there's a lot of old content, such as hundreds of articles that have to be moved one by one, is stated in the proposal along with its cost before we start. Details of each package are on the package page.

Questions we often get from businesses with an old website

Does InWebsite take on monthly maintenance for old websites?

No. We rebuild your website with one of our packages, then hand it over with the domain in your name. After the 1-month support period there are no monthly fees to us. The only recurring costs are the domain and hosting, paid directly to the providers.

Will my Google rankings drop after the website is replaced?

They may fluctuate for a while. Google's official guide says those fluctuations are normal while Google recrawls the site, and that for a medium-sized site new URLs can take a few weeks or more to appear. 301 redirects from every old URL reduce the risk, but no one can guarantee the rankings will stay exactly the same.

Can I keep my old domain?

Yes, as long as you have access to the domain's management. If the domain is still registered in the name or account of the old vendor, it needs to be transferred first. Registrars usually restrict transfers of domains that were just registered or just moved registrars, so check their rules first.

My old website was hacked. Can you fix it?

We don't patch old websites. What we can do is build a new website from scratch, then reuse the old content after it has been checked. While that's underway, change every password connected to your old website.

How long does it take?

It follows the package for the new website: Starter about 3 days, Business 1 to 2 weeks, Enterprise depending on the size of the project, counted from when we receive your complete materials. Transferring the domain from the old vendor can add time, depending on the registrar.
